Source: Sun UK

A prostitute in Zimbabwe ‘died’ during a hotel romp with a client – only to come back to life as her body was being put in a coffin. The vice girl reportedly collapsed during a sex session last week at the Manor Hotel in Bulaweyo. Convinced she was dead, her shocked client called the police – who sent paramedics to collect the body.

But as they were loading the ‘corpse’ into a metal coffin, the hooker suddenly woke up screaming.
Local news reports claim she leaped from the casket, yelling: “You want to kill me, you want to kill me”. LMAO.

OFILI: My Weird Beef With Chinua Achebe

I don’t necessarily agree with Chinua Achebe on a lot of things. For instance, I felt that his ending to his first book Things Fall Apart was bad. Bad because he killed of the lead character Okonkwo in the most cowardly of manners. Okonkwo the one who resisted the colonial masters the most was made to die in a remarkably uneventful and might I add cowardly way. His death did not even spark a revolution amongst his village people…he just died. With his death, it was as if we accepted that the colonial masters were superior.

Justin Timberlake's 20/20 soon to become the only 19th album to sell a million in its first week.

Since SoundScan started tracking music sales in 1991, Justin Timberlake's 20/20 is soon to become the only 19th album to sell a million copies in its first week.

If another day has gone by, that must mean the sales forecast for Justin Timberlake's blockbuster The 20/20 Experience album have grown by at least another 50,000-100,000.

Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict pray together

The two men in white embraced and showed one another the deference owed a pope in ways that surely turned Vatican protocol upside down: A reigning pope telling a retired one, "We are brothers," and insisting that they pray side-by-side during a date to discuss the future of the Catholic Church.

Who bought the car????? Its a Chevy Corvette and not a Ferrari

The card on the car clearly says 'wedding gift from Senator David Mark', but the senate president's senior adviser on media, Kola Ologbondiyan, has released a statement denying it. Ologbondiya said:
Senator Mark did not visit Dubai for Tuface wedding rather he attended the 128th Inter parliamentary Union (IPU) conference currently holding in Quito, Ecuador. He was also not represented at Mr. Idibia's wedding. It is also instructive to state that the President of the Senate, Senator Mark, did not make a car donation of any kind to Tuface before departing Nigeria for Ecuador neither did he purchase nor send any car to Dubai as a wedding gift for the musician or his wife. Who made the donation on behalf of the President of the Senate?
It is therefore a puerile lie for anybody to state that Senator Mark bought a Ferrari car worth N47m for Tuface. The allegation is wicked, ridiculous and irresponsible.
Signed: Kola Ologbondiyan
Special Adviser, Media & Publicity to the President of the Senate David Mark
The Chevy Corvette is worth about N7m and if the Senate president says he didn't buy it, then we should give him the benefit of doubt. I doubt a man of his caliber will buy a wedding gift and then publicly deny buying it. I'm sure 2face Idibia's team will address this when they get back from Dubai.

The New face of H&M unveiled

There’s been a lot of excitement in the ‘Bey Hive’  lately as the singer just signed on to be the newest face of H&M; something that’s been buzzed about since she was snapped on a shoot back in January. The photos, shot in the Bahamas, show the star looking especially sultry, wearing flowers in her hair and cute, summery clothes.
True to her Type A personality, the star had a hand in designing the looks in the summer collection scheduled to hit stores in May, including a body-con dress, high-slit maxi, sleeveless top and swimwear. Her new track“Standing On the Sun” will be heard in the ads, which “felt more like making a video than a commercial,” Beyoncé said in a statement.
The already enormous affordable-fashion empire, H&M,  has been raising its profile even further recently, from shooting Guy Ritchie-directed ads to making appearances at the Oscars, and it’s quite expected that the collaboration with Beyoncé is only going to make 2013 even bigger for the empire.

OKIRI C.: WHO WEARS ACHEBE'S SHOES?

If there is any one writer that has taken Nigerian literature to the world, it is Chinua Achebe. His novel Things Fall Apart indisputably qualifies as a classic. Chinua Achebe had written several other books, many which are no less worthy of the attention Things Fall Apart has garnered in the course of time. Arrow Of God and No Longer At Ease are two full length novels that immediately succeeds Things Fall Apart.
There is no denying the fact that these three books make up a trilogy of note as their is a traceable generational link in the plot and characters in all three of those great books. There is also The Anthill Of The Savanah, another noteworthy offering by the master writer.

There are other books written by the world acclaimed author from Nigeria; Chinua Achebe had dabbled in the realms of other genres of writing like short stories (Girls At War) poetry (Beware Soul Brother) children's story (Chike And The River), and essays. While novel-writing may be Chinua Achebe's fort, he has made several hits
with his essays. His recent, and lastly published disturbing Quasi-autobiography, There Was A Country, could be said to be very successful. As it is the trend with significantly successful books in Nigeria, the book pirates are having a field day at running off cheap re-prints of There Was A Country, and putting them on the streets. No sooner does a copy of There Was A Country lands on the street than it is quickly purchased by a waiting reader. The plethora of reviews of the book, may have whet the appetite of the reading public for what Uncle Achebe has to say. And I heard the man said things about the plight of Biafra in the unfortunate last Century's civil war in Nigeria. Even before the first print got to the shores of Nigeria, many reviewer and casual readers alike have already, metaphorically, rolled up there sleeves to engage Uncle Chinua Achebe in controversies over the content and intent of the book.

Nothing succeeds like success. If there is a successful Nigerian author, Chinua Achebe is it. He is indisputably an icon of African Literature. As characteristically enigmatic as Achebe may be regarded in certain quarters of the Nigerian polity, the man is held in high esteem by the younger generation of Nigerian writers. Now Uncle Achebe is gone, a lacuna is definitely created, one that must be filled soon.

Chinua Achebe  will always remain an icon of Nigerian, if not African, writing. While there are other living successful Nigerian writers to look up to, like Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri, to name but two, this generation of Writer must have one of their own be their standard-bearer. There are brilliant writers out of Nigeria, and they are plenty, but this generation must find one of its own to hold high, the standard of contemporary Nigerian Writing; a one who will, take the burning torch to the world in the footsteps of Late Uncle Achebe.

This generation is fortunate to still have the contemporaries of Pa Achebe like Uncle Wole "Kongi" Soyinka, et al, to guide and point it in the right direction. This generation of younger Nigerian Writers is privilege too to have publishers like Farafina, Cassava, Republic, Magic Wand Publishing, Kraft Books, Evans Publishers, Macmillan Books, and Paressia- to name but a handful- to help make of its works, world standard books (in all formats). There are booksellers like Monsuro, Rovingheights, Glendora, Patabah, Bookville, and Debonair Bookstores to make books available to direct consumers. We should be thankful too to have The Rainbow Book Club and Garden City Literary Festival, The Nigerian International Book Fair, Celebrity Read Africa, Book Jam, Book 'N' Gauge to ginger Nigeria's interest and love for books. There is the Association Of Nigerian Authors (ANA) which organises and moderate many literary awards for Nigerian Literature, There is also Promise Ogochukwu's  Lumina: organisers of The Wole Soyinka Prize For Literature with her continental reach; there are also myriads of
literary groups, societies, clubs, cabals, helping to mold the next icons for Nigerian writing. In sum, all efforts must be coordinated to keep Nigerian Writing on the global stage, and a Standard-Bearer in the order of Chinua Achebe must emerge from this blooming crop of Nigerian writers: This generation of writers that has it's own stories to tell.

REVIEWS: Chesney, a place to be

The pleasant surprise is that a 3-Star hotel can have a 5-star class.

Such surprise awaits you at Chesney Hotel: a haven of luxury, tucked away in a most serene and secure corner of Lagos. Your first surprise will be the courteous staff of the hotel, with their ready, warm smile and condescending approach to guests. I think the cheerful troop at Chesney Hotel is a collection of the most efficient hotel staffs one can find anywhere is this fast growing mega city of Lagos. Chesney Hotel is a surprise to discover.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the cosy ambiance of Chesney Hotel. Most definitely one of the most decent Hotels in Lagos I have been to. The cleanliness and freshness of the air around the facility is most desirable. The public areas, like the homely reception is adequately air-conditioned; The furniture arrangement, and the plasma TV that alternates between News, Sports and music channels is riveting. The collection of Newspapers and magazines to browse through, and the lighting all makes The Hotel just so inviting.
The neat, Cordial and amiable staff makes you feel you are in good company at Chesney. They are indeed good company. Everyone of them seem to speak your language. And the smiles with which they bid you "Welcome To Chesney", and "please come again to Chesney" is surprising, and an invitation good as you can get in any 5-Star hotel in Lagos.
The hotel's amenities include, a classy restaurant, a well-stocked bar, a VIP lounge with everything you can find in a VIP lounge. There is a, rather sizeable, swimming pool with a bar, and snooker boards.
At Chesney, the feeling that your unique personal needs are professionally catered for, is overwhelming. Sure, every hotel in Lagos has a functional public convenience system, but the observable high standard of hygiene at Chesney exemplary and commendable.
If a hotel facility could be referred to as "home away from home", this unique indigenous hospitality outfit: Chesney, is it.

I visited that place for the first time, for a business meeting. I have no shadow of regret that I had gotten there good 40 minutes before the meeting took off. Every one of those waiting 40 minutes was
a time well spent in laudable comfort, and astonishingly impeccable luxury service.
Chesney, on Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, is a reassuring discovery. The oasis of luxury is in the neighbourhood of Park 'N' Shop, Debonair Pizza, and MedPlus pharmacy. It is definitely a place of choice if what you are looking for in Lagos hotels is comfort and excellent service. A pleasant surprise is Chesney Hotel, Lagos.
