Barack Hussein Obama officially began his second term as the 44th president Sunday, setting the stage for him to lay out his vision in an inaugural address on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
President Obama took his official oath of office yesterday in a small, private ceremony at the White House. The constitution mandates that the official swearing-in take place on January 20th, and the president will hold a large, public ceremony today. The event was open to a limited media presence and the guests were only his immediate family, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha. Chief Justice John Roberts presided.
After reciting the oath, Obama was first congratulated by the Chief Justice. "Congratulations, Mr. President," he said. And the president tells his daughter, I DID IT.
