Dana Air insurers begin final settlement of $100,000
Lagos,
December 13, 2012 – Insurers of Dana Air, today,
commenced payment of USD 70,000 to families of victims of the June 3 disaster
after having made advance payments of USD 30,000 to over 80 families. The 1999 Montreal
Convention, which is domesticated in Nigeria, stipulates that the sum of USD
100,000 be paid as compensation to families of victims of air disasters.
Confirming the payment to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tony
Usidamen, Dana Air’s Head of Corporate Communications said “Following receipt
of Letter of Authentification from the Probate Registry, our insurers have
begun balance payment of USD 70,000 to affected families. Only 4 other families
have, so far, presented the requisite Grant of Probate or Letter of
Administration, and payment will shortly be made to them.”
Usidamen explained that in order to assess and verify full compensation due and
payable, it is necessary for claimants to produce the required Grants of
Probate or Letters of Administration which would then have to be authenticated
by the Probate Registry. “This is a customary procedure to ensure that just
compensation is only paid to the right next-of-kin. Dana Air has no control
over the speed with which the Probate Registry deals with the verification
process, although maximum pressure is being exerted to expedite this.”
“Also, in the case of minors, a Letter of Guardianship has
to be presented by the guardian or ward in order to access full payment. Again,
this is not a pre-condition given by Dana Air or its insurers but a standard
legal requirement to ensure that due compensation is paid only to those who
have entitlement.”
Said Usidamen, “We appreciate how difficult this period is
for all the families and are also aware of the challenges they are facing in
getting the required legal documents for accessing the final payments. We,
however, want to offer our assurances that they are not alone in the process
and we will continue to work with the NCAA and other relevant authorities to
assist them in every way possible. Thankfully, the Lagos State Government has
promised to fast-track the process of obtaining the Letters of Administration
from the Probate Registry.”
“Dana Air shares in the pain of all
the affected families and we wish to re-iterate the readiness of our insurers
to settle all claims in accordance with the law and available evidence, at the
earliest opportunity,” Usidamen reassured.

it was just West's bold fashion choice that shocked fans.
He wore a black leather
skirt-like bottom over his pants paired with a black hoodie while he performed
at the benefit concert.
The kilt bottom swayed back and
forth as West jumped around the stage rapping hits like "Gold Digger"
and "Touch the Sky."

Architect Peter Archer's Hobbit House
CHESTER COUNTY,
Pa. (AP),Worlds away from the Shire, a stone cottage tucked into the
Pennsylvania countryside would make Bilbo Baggins feel like he was back home
with his Hobbit friends in Middle-earth.
Nestled in a part of
Chester County dotted with picturesque barns and rolling fields surprisingly
close to Philadelphia.
The 600-square foot
building is a short walk from his main house, on a flat stone path and through
an English-style garden.
"We wanted a single
structure, a relaxing place that was diminutive in scale, for the owner to come
and hang out and just be in solitude
with his collection," said architect Peter Archer, speaking on the owner's
behalf.
Hundreds of houses inspired
by Tolkien's books have been built in the U.S. and abroad. But Archer said,
"This isn't something that you can recreate on a suburban cul-de-sac; it
was made for this specific location and it wouldn't work anywhere else."
Archer worked with a team
of craftsmen to create the fantastic
abode. They used stones taken from a long-collapsed section of an 18th-century
low wall running through the center of the 16-acre property. Built up against a
stone retaining wall of the same vintage, the Hobbit house looks like an
original feature of the property.
"We weren't going to
do a Hollywood interpretation. We wanted it to be timeless," Archer said. "It
was built in 2004 but looking at it, you could think it was from 1904 or
1604."
The 54-inch diameter
Spanish cedar door naturally with a knob
right in the center just as Tolkien described opens with a single hand-forged iron hinge.
Several craftsmen said they couldn't hang the 150-pound door on one hinge but a
Maryland blacksmith "succeeded on the first try," Archer said.
A Delaware cabinet-maker
built the mahogany windows, including the large arched "butterfly
window" , its Art Nouveau-ish
flourishes inspired by Tolkien's own drawings. The name comes from the window's
appearance when open, with the two halves pushed outward from a center hinge.
The roof is covered with clay tiles handmade in France
Inside the small dwelling
are curved arches and rafters of Douglas fir, a fireplace finished in stucco
and accented with thin slices of clay tile, and plenty of shelves and ledges
for the owner's library and displays of Hobbit figurines, Gandalf's staff, hooded
capes, chess sets, chalices and of
course, The One Ring. The rustic structure cleverly hides its thoroughly modern
heating, cooling, electrical and security systems.
Concerned that his rural
tranquility could turn into an unwanted tourist attraction, the owner has taken
steps to ensure it remains under the radar. He does not want the location of
the site revealed.
Archer, who declined to
divulge what it cost to build the Hobbit house, said his team is currently
working on a similar project in Tasmania.

Natali looks like she’s about to embark on a very successful modelling career given shots that have appeared

stunning pictures of Germanotta saw her draped in pieces from Alaia, J. Mendel
and Proenza Schouler; she looked divine in all, and though Gaga is often made
up to the nines, the likeness between the two sisters was evident in the shots.
We’re pretty sure that she won’t be staying under
the radar for much longer though, not after these amazing pictures.

The Pope sent out his first tweet today Wednesday
December 12th, a week after joining Twitter
His main account is @Pontifex which is in English but he has seven other
linked Twitter accounts. The other seven have a suffix at the end for the
different language versions. The German version is @Pontifex_de, and the Arabic
version is @Pontifex_ar.
The tweets will be going out in Spanish, English, Italian, Portuguese,
German, Polish, Arabic and French. The pope already has over a million
followers on all his accounts...

Masked Gunman kills two and thereafter kills himself at the Oregon Mall
A masked gunman who opened fire in the crowded Clackamas Town
Center mall in suburban Portland, Oregon, killing two individuals and seriously
injuring a third before killing himself, has been "tentatively"
identified by police, though they have not yet released his name.
The shooter, wearing a white
hockey mask, black clothing, and a bullet proof vest, tore through the mall
around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, entering through a Macy's store and proceeding to the
food court and public areas spraying bullets, according to witness reports.
Police have not released the
names of the deceased. Clackamas County Sheriff's Department Lt. James Rhodes
said authorities are in the process of notifying victims' families.
The injured victim has been transported to a local hospital,
according to Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts.
Witnesses from the shooting rampage said that a young man who
appeared to be a teenager ran through the upper level of Macy's to the mall
food court, firing multiple shots, one right after the other, with what is
believed to be a black, semi-automatic rifle.

The happily married 61 year old mother of four boys, Mrs
Folorunsho Alakija who was a designer back in the day, and today, Africa’s
richest woman went into the oil business some years back and now has an oil
bloc that pulls in N157 million a day.
According to Forbes Magazine-the November 2012 edition, she

Uti and Matse to host the maiden edition of the Face of Peace Africa Pagent
Former Big Brother Africa winner, Uti Nwachukwu and Nigeria Info FM On
Air Personality, Matse will jointly host the maiden edition of the Face of
Peace Africa Pageant this year, the organizers have revealed.
The Face of Peace Africa Pageant is a new beauty pageant from the stable
of Blu-Moon Imaginationz, a media and film production outfit in Abuja founded
by the current Miss Peace Nigeria, Ify Concepta, the one-time runner up for
Miss Imo and Miss Tourism. The auditions for the beauty pageant are scheduled
to take place in two key cities; Abuja and Lagos.
The Lagos audition will take place next week at 33B Emina
Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja. Forms for the pageant are still up for sale.

Turkish prosecutors on Tuesday called for a three-year prison term for Nigerian international Emmanuel Emenike after he was implicated in a widespread match-fixing scandal
.Emenike's agent had beforehand been approached by Fenerbahce officials to arrange the player's "injury" for the match, it was alleged.
The 25-year-old attacker's case has been tried separately from a larger trial that has rocked Turkish football and which ended in July seeing the president of Fenerbahce, Aziz Yildirim, sentenced to six years and three months in prison.
In all, 93 people were tried and a number were found guilty of having fixed matches in the Turkish first and second divisions in the 2010-11 season, as wellas for malpractice.
Emenike joined Fenerbahce in 2011 but did not make a first team appearance for the club before he was transferred to Spartak.
Facebook Warning Hoax: Privacy and Copyright Warning Spreading In Facebook Is A Hoax
A Facebook warning message is spreading on the social networking site this past few days wherein users are encouraged to repost a message declaring that their copyright is attached to all the materials they post on Facebook in response to new Facebook guidelines.
Here is a copy of the said message:
“In response to the new Facebook guidelines I hereby declare that my copyright is attached to all of my personal details, illustrations, comics, paintings, professional photos and videos, etc. (as a result of the Berner Convention).
For commercial use of the above my written consent is needed at all times! (Anyone reading this can copy this text and paste it on their Facebook Wall. This will place them under protection of copyright lawsBy the present communiqué, I notify Facebook that it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, disseminate, or take any other action against me on the basis of this profile and/or its contents. The aforementioned prohibited actions also apply to employees, students, agents and/or any staff under Facebook’s direction or control. However, the message was said to be a hoax. ABC News noted that there is no such thing as the “Berner Convention,” and Facebook does not own the materials posted on their website.
Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes released the following statement:
“We have noticed some statements that suggest otherwise and we wanted to take a moment to remind you of the facts — when you post things like photos to Facebook, we do not own them. Under our terms (https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms), you grant Facebook permission to use, distribute, and share the things you post, subject to the terms and applicable privacy settings.”
Meanwhile, privacy experts also said that posting such status message is totally worthless.
“Your Facebook data is governed by its Data Use Policy, and FB cooperates with law enforcement and government agencies. Simply posting a status update offers you no protection whatsoever,” Facecrooks, a popular “scam-watching” site reportedly said.
Despite these facts, the Facebook warning hoax continues to spread.
Justin Bieber Responds To Overalls Critique
The pop superstar, 19, donned blue-and-white-striped overalls, a white T-shirt, a backwards baseball cap, and yellow sneakers on Friday to accept the Diamond Jubilee Medal, which honors significant achievements by Canadians. Many Twitter commenters viewed Bieber's choice of attire as disrespectful. Comments ranged from the incredulous ("Justin Bieber Seriously Wore Overalls To Meet The Canadian Prime Minister") to the outraged ("Justin Bieber met the Prime Minster in Overalls and a ball cap, such trash, learn some respect kid"). Another Twitter user suggested that Bieber fire his stylist.
Bieber responded
to overalls-gate on his Instagram account. "The pic of
me and the Prime Minister was taken in a room in the arena where I was
performing at that day. I walked straight from stage to meet and greet him, if
you... expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan [sic] a suit at that
specific time that's crazy, It wasn't like it was like I was going into his
environment, we were at a hockey arena. Wow Am I ever white trash."
Prime Minister Harper seemed amused
by the controversy. On Sunday, he tweeted,
"In fairness to [Bieber]... I told him I would be wearing my overalls
too."
But Bieber's bad weekend didn't end there. The 19-year-old was booed
while performing during halftime at Canada's football Grey Cup. It was unclear
if the jeering was in response to Bieber's ill-advised overalls or just because
the crowd just wasn't in the mood to hear "Boyfriend" again.

Chris Brown cancels South American show following protests
Brown, 23, was supposed to headline a big show in the capital city of Georgetown. But South American women''s rights protesters and opposition lawmakers immediately released statements making it known that the ''Don''t Wake Me Up'' singer would not be welcomed in their city.
Brown, upon learning of the incident was uneasy and decided to cancel his appearance, reported Ace Showbiz.
