The Executive Secretary of the commission, Engineer Sanusi Imran Abdullahi, has disclosed that Nigeria owes the Lake Chad Basin Commission close to N600million.
Sanusi disclosed this while fielding questions from reporters in Abuja during the 58th ordinary session of the National Experts meeting, which will lead to the recommendations of the Council of Ministers meeting.
He said: “Nigeria contributes 40% of the financial strength of the commission but is yet to meet her obligations for this quarter of the year.
“Nigeria owes the commission about N600million or there about. Our financial position is not very good but we will see if we can do some projects.”
Sanusi added: “If Nigeria decides to give us a contribution before the end of the council, we should be able to finance the LCBC. Nigeria has not been owing for the past years.
“So if Nigeria who is contributing 40 per cent now of finance to the commission gives us a contribution that should be a relief to the commission.”
