I just bought a Bruce Lee documentary from Chicken Republic (go figure).
The documentary featured a series of interviews and movie clips about the man Bruce Lee, from friends to family to athletes such as Kobe Bryant everyone was interviewed. The documentary was 95% what other people said and 5%
who Bruce Lee punched or killed what Bruce Lee said, but ironically, the most salient part of the interview was from an old black and white interview that Bruce Lee did. What he said was so poignant and so on-point, that I googled it and researched it and now totally respect it and Bruce Lee even more…in the clip he says:
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
Ain’t that the truth!
One of the greatest fears in life is change. To deal with this change, we worry and we worry a whole lot. But we can survive that change or any changes matter of fact by simply adapting our minds to the circumstances. If you are called to be a Manager, adapt your mind and think like a Manager. If you are called to be a Father, adapt your mind and think like a Father. Whatever circumstances you are thrust in, you can survive as long as you remain fluid in your thoughts. And that is the secret to life and its changes… because sometimes we just need to be like water and adapt to whatever roles that we are called upon to do…the power to think like water, act like water and be like water is what separate’s the successful from the average.
Be water my friends….except pure water =D
