Congratulations to Sir Elton John and David Furnish on their expanding family!
The Grammy winner and his partner welcomed a new baby, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, last week via surrogate, Hello! confirms. The tot is the second child for the couple – their son Zachary is two years old.
“Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable,” the pair told the British magazine. “The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement.”
John, 65, and Furnish, 50, threw journalists for a loop last week when reports that they had become fathers for a second time first surfaced. While reps for the couple did not respond to omg!’s request for comment, a rep for John told Gossip Cop that such rumors were “currently false.”
In truth, that turned out to be true. Baby Elijah wasn’t born for another day.
The happy couple tied the knot in 2005 after 12 years as a couple. Zachary was born via surrogate in December 2010.
The name Elijah comes from the 9th century Hebrew prophet known for seeking to abolish idolatry for the sake of restoring justice. That sounds about right for the progressive and philanthropic couple known for speaking out about gay rights.
