Ladipo market Shut Down

Ladipo Spare Parts Markets has been shut down by Lagos State Government. As thousands of Traders and businessmen have been seen  returning to their various respective homes.
Speaking to one of the traders, he revealed that in the last weekend associations of traders within the market shuts down their various shops in-order to carry out environmental sanitation orders given to the marketers by the State governments.
President of the Ladipo Auto Central Executive Council (LACEC), Mr. Iyke Animalu who led traders on the weekly clean-up exercise, Thursday, in the market noted that officials of the state ‘s Ministry of the Environment had visited the market sometime ago and threatened to shut it down due to uncleanness.
He lamented, that as much as traders in the market tried their best to keep the place hygienic, they had problems with disposal of waste as nowhere has been allocated to them to dispose refuse.
Animalu also said the canal which passes through the market collects dirt and wastes from different locations, adding that traders in the market were not responsible for the accumulated dirts in it.
He said that has not even stopped them from cleaning the canal, every Tuesday and last Fridays of the month, in a bid to keep their environment neat.
While saying efforts to have the Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) to allocate a space for dumping and evacuation of refuse from the Ladipo market have proved abortive, he called on traders in the market to ensure that their immediate environments were always kept clean.
Animalu said they were ready to ready to cooperate with the state’s Ministry of the Environment and other relevant agencies in ensuring the market is kept clean, noting that they are very aware of the passion of the state government on environmental issues.
According to him, the rowdiness experienced in the market was not caused by the traders, but operators of the park and pay arrangement who usually park vehicles on both sides of the road, causing traffic obstruction.
He also lamented that shops have been built upon areas which were initially allocated for parking of vehicles, which has further compounded the issue, adding, that a task force has been set up to clear the roads.
He therefore called on the relevant agencies responsible for awarding the contract to have a rethink and proffer a better arrangement that will keep the roads free, adding, that the union has asked petty traders who usually traded by the roadsides, to quit.
During the cleanup, members of the LACEC executive were seen evacuating and destroying wooded stalls and tables used by the petty traders.
The president general of the amalgamated unions of the Ladipo Market called on detractors to stop peddling rumours that there are leadership problems in the market.
He reiterated that traders in the market are transacting their business peacefully, noting, that all 35 units in the market were united, with him as leader.
He therefore called on anyone parading themselves as leaders in the market to desist from it, and invest more efforts in developing the market.

OKIRI C.: MENTAL SANITATION

I was Set for the journey back to Lagos, but I was stuck in Warri.
They were having an Environmental Sanitation Exercise. I wonder if these so called sanitation exercise enforced everylast Saturday of the month is having any significant effect on the minds of the people. Not as if the Warri folks are dirty literarily, they are neat in body and environment, as neat as the principles of hygiene goes. But the amount of psycho-social waste that goes on in that oil-tainted Sin City calls for a emergency measure.

OFILI: Be Like Water - Bruce Lee

I just bought a Bruce Lee documentary from Chicken Republic (go figure).
The documentary featured a series of interviews and movie clips about the man Bruce Lee, from friends to family to athletes such as Kobe Bryant everyone was interviewed. The documentary was 95% what other people said and 5%
who Bruce Lee punched or killed what Bruce Lee said, but ironically, the most salient part of the interview was from an old black and white interview that Bruce Lee did. What he said was so poignant and so on-point, that I googled it and researched it and now totally respect it and Bruce Lee even more…in the clip he says:

OKIRI C.: DANFO AND MOLUE CONDUCTORS - URBAN MENACE

Don't ever be kind to a Lagos Bus Conductor.
Yes, Danfo and Molué Conductors are humans too, and they deserve to be seen and heard. Respect them, yes; but be kind to them, not on your life. Lagos Bus Conductors, next to Agberos, are the ruddest type of persons you can ever find in any human society. Everything about them bespoke uncouth, un-mannered, unlearned and abhorrent. The ragamuffin dress code, the brash, grating lingo, and the mostly-drunken or doped mien, together with the acts they exhibit, are appalling, to put it mildly. And they have "feral scents" to boot.

OKIRI C.: OKADA AND 1000 WAYS TO DIE

Television-Watching, as well as writing, is therapeutic for me. I was watching 1000 Ways To Die on Sony Max. I like Sony Max for its satirical portrayal of the human condition. The ridiculously cynical manner that TV Channel presents its programmes is cathartic in the least. Catharsis works for me because it helps me hang loose and free.
Now 1000 Ways To Die is one of such catharsis. The programme is a true-to-life re-enacted episodes of how various people have come to their end through preventable accidents. If I have learnt any lesson from TV, it is that most accidents are preventable. Sony Max taught me that. And in that programme, I drew a parallel with the near fatal accident I had that night in February 2012. An Okada accident.

Rihanna attacked by an emotional Fan

A crazy fan attacked Rihanna in London over the weekend with a bottle of Lucozade boost and was yelling some stuffs about Chris B.

Rihanna reportedly fell on a shop grate and grazed her knee and could be seen on the scene cleaning up blood while her guard who ran after the attacker got hurt and was taken to the hospital. At the end, the attacker was said to have escaped.

Undeterred, she headed inside the club anyway. Can't keep a party girl down!
